ETA Subclass 601 Australia 2026: Electronic Travel Authority Guide
The Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) is an electronic visitor visa for eligible passport holders travelling to Australia for tourism or business visitor purposes.
How long does an ETA last?
The ETA generally permits multiple travel to Australia during a period of up to 12 months from grant, or a shorter period if passport validity requires it. Each stay can be up to three months.

How do you apply?
Home Affairs currently requires ETA-eligible passport holders to apply using the Australian ETA app. The Department states that there is an AUD20 service charge for using the app and no additional visa application charge for the ETA itself.
Tourism and business visitor activities
The ETA can support tourism and permitted business visitor activity. It is not a general employment visa. Business visitor activity has a limited meaning and does not authorise ordinary productive work for an Australian business.
Visitor processing times
Home Affairs' July 2026 visitor-category median was less than one day across subclasses 600, 601 and 651 combined. The Department cautions that subclass-specific experiences differ and applications needing more information can take longer.
