Australian Migration Program 2026: Skill, Family and Permanent Visa Data
Australia's permanent Migration Program allocates places across Skill, Family and Special Eligibility streams. It is a permanent visa program and should not be confused with net overseas migration, temporary visa grants or border arrival figures.

How many places did the Migration Program deliver?
The Department of Home Affairs reported that the 2024–25 Migration Program delivered 185,001 places against a planning level of 185,000.
The Skill stream delivered 132,148 places, the Family stream delivered 52,500 places and Special Eligibility accounted for 353 places.

The Skill stream
The Skill stream is the largest component of the permanent program. It includes employer-sponsored, independent, state and territory nominated, regional and other skilled pathways. Planning and delivery can shift between categories depending on government settings and demand.

The Family stream
For 2026–27, the Department of Home Affairs states that the Family stream has 52,460 planned places, including an estimated 41,500 Partner visas and 3,500 Child visas for planning purposes.

Migration Program versus net overseas migration
Permanent program places do not equal net overseas migration. Many permanent visa recipients are already in Australia when their visa is granted. NOM instead measures population change associated with international migration.
