Prospective Marriage Visa 300 Australia 2026: Fiancé Visa Guide
The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) is designed for people who intend to marry an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen and then continue the Partner visa process in Australia. It is commonly described as Australia's fiancé visa.

Who is the subclass 300 for?
The visa is for genuine prospective spouses who intend to marry within the period allowed by the visa and meet the relevant sponsorship, health, character and relationship requirements. The application must satisfy the legal criteria that apply at the time of decision, not simply show an intention to marry.
Relationship evidence still matters
Although the couple is not yet married, Home Affairs still expects evidence that the relationship and intention to marry are genuine. Evidence can include the history of the relationship, time spent together, travel, communication, social recognition, future plans and documentary evidence concerning the intended marriage.
See our detailed Partner Visa Relationship Evidence guide.
After the marriage
A subclass 300 holder who marries and meets the relevant requirements can generally progress to the onshore Partner visa pathway by lodging the subclass 820 and 801 applications. Timing matters because the subclass 300 is temporary and applicants should not assume they can lodge the next application after it expires.
Family violence provisions
Home Affairs confirms that some people who hold or previously held a subclass 300 visa can fall within the family violence provisions, but additional requirements apply, including location and visa-status requirements in some cases. This is a specialised area and should be assessed carefully.
