Aged Dependent Relative Visa 114 and 838 Australia 2026: Eligibility and Queue
The Aged Dependent Relative visa is a permanent Other Family visa for a single older person who is financially dependent on an eligible relative living in Australia and satisfies the detailed dependency and sponsorship requirements.
Subclass 114 versus subclass 838
Subclass 114 is the offshore pathway: the applicant and included applicants must be outside Australia when applying and at decision. Subclass 838 is the corresponding onshore pathway.

Financial dependence is central
The visa is not simply for any older parent or relative. The applicant must satisfy the specific aged-dependent-relative definition and demonstrate the required financial dependence on the relevant Australian relative, together with the other visa and sponsorship criteria.
Current queue position
As at 31 May 2026, Home Affairs had released Aged Dependent Relative applications only up to queue dates of 30 June 2013. It currently estimates about 22 years for new Aged Dependent Relative and Remaining Relative applications.

Aged Dependent Relative versus Parent visa
Aged Dependent Relative visas are legally distinct from Parent and Aged Parent visas. The relationship, dependency and queue frameworks differ, so applicants should compare the actual eligibility rules rather than treating them as interchangeable family pathways.
